Bh.Murali performs on the Keyboard & Mandolin during his Shreeraagam Concerts. He plays Carnatic & Light on these instruments. Ilayaraja's hits & MSV's old melodies sound very good in the Keyboard-Mandolin combination. Also the tabla & mridhangam combination with alongwith soft effects & guitar chords add a neat rhythm flow & harmony to the songs.

The popular carnatic & cine songs sound very differently during his concerts & some of the songs appear much better & lively than even the original recording., like the old wine in a new bottle.

Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam's concerts are going good, but the concert on 4th February 2010, at Sri Vishnu Mahal, Saligramam, was a special & memorable one. Unlike just a Wedding Reception, the audience were ready even by 5.45 pm, and were ready to listen to the concert.

The concert began at 6.30 pm, with a varnam in 'Sri ragam'. There was a full bench of artists for the concert.

Tabla: Hariharasuthan

Then the concert proceeded with Vatapi Ganapathim, Alaipayudhe, Thamboori Meetidhava, Bantureethikolu, Vallikkanavan, Chinnanchiru Kiliye, Raghuvamsasudha, Sabapathikku, Sai Bhajan.

'Madhuvanthi ' - a fusion of carnatic with the song 'Kanda Naal Mudhal' was the main item, and it went on well with a grand thani avardhanam.

Ater that many melodius cine songs like nilave ennidam nerungadhe, indha pachaikkilikkoru, ennavale, en veettu thottathil, amma endrazhaikkadha etc.

After that Raghupathi Raghava, Vaishnava Janatho, Mani Iyer notes, Muthaithiru were played and the concert was concluded with Bagyadha Lakshmi Baramma.

There was spell bound audience, and they gave a lot of encouragement. It went on like a Sabha Concert, and was well appreciated.

Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam performed its best Concert at Sivanandha Gurukulam, Chennai on 22nd September.

The General Secretary of the Ashram Padmashri.Dr.S.Rajaram & Mrs.Rajaram requested Bh.Murali to play popular devotional songs & Cine songs, for the sake of the children of the Ashram. The concert began at around 6.30 pm, with Maha Ganapathim, a Dhikshidar Krithi.

The second song was "Ayarpadi Maligaiyil", and the children started singing along, clapping their hands together with the rhytm. The concert was continued with some more devotional songs like "pullanguzhal kodutha", "malar pola - pondicherry annai song", "janani janani", and followed by melodius cine songs like "kadavul Ullame karunai illame", 'ovvoru pookkalume", "brindhavanamum nandhakumaranum", and many other songs. The team also played cine songs according to the children's choice.

The children of the Ashram enjoyed the concert with their full involvement, singing and dancing with the team.

The General Secretary appreciated Bh.Murali and his team and complimented that this concert was the best concert in the Ashram, since its inception in 1945 and the children were egarly asking, when Murali & his team will come again and perform.

Bh.Murali and his team members were very thrilled and had a very wonderful experience out of this concert. The Ashram authorities have requested Bh.Murali to perform concerts at their premises atleast once in 6 months, so that the orphan children will get out of their complex and rejoice with this wonderful music.

Bh.Murali was accompanied by Shri K.R Suresh (violin), Shri. Nagarajan (mridhangam), Shri. Hariharasuthan (tabla), Shri.Gururaaj (keyboard) and Shri.Nagaraj (guitar). Audio arrangements were made by M/s Nithya Audio, Chennai.

A Concert for a Social Cause - 22nd September

Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam has been performing free concerts on many occasions for genuine cause.

One such corcert has been organised by Shreeraagam at Sivanandha Gurukulam, Kattangolathur, Chennai. Sivanandha Gurukulam is a well known Orphanage in Chennai, doing a wonderful service. Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam is performing a purely service-oriented Concert on 22nd September on the occasion of 'Navarathri Celebrations'.

Bh.Murali thanks Dr.Rajaram & his wife Mrs.Rajaram for the opportunity given to Shreeraagam for the performance.

Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam performed 50 concerts in the year 2008. There was a huge response to our concerts and we could attract all categories of music lovers. There are a lot of music troupes in Chennai who can perform either carnatic music or light music. Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam is one the rare troupes in Chennai, who can perform both Carnatic & Light together and that is why we were most successful in the year 2008. We select popular, melodius songs alone for our concerts, and avoid rocking noisy music. We engage a very professional audio for our concerts and hence our output will be very mild and soothing to the audience. Shri. Abhirami Ramanathan, a popular cine producer and owner of Abhirami Shopping Mall, Purasawalkam was one among those who were impressed by our melodius music, and he was kind enough to invite us for a performance on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday celebration on September 9th, 2008 at Raja Muthiah Hall, Egmore. This was a great honour to our hard work, and the function was attended by many dignitaries including our Chief Minister Kalaignar, and many popular persons from the cine Industry.

Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam performed Instrumental Fusion Concert on 19th May, 2009 in a Wedding Reception at Manirajam Mahal, Lake View Road, West Mambalam, Chennai. Bh.Murali led the program on the Electronic Keyboard. He was accompanied by Sri.K.R.Suresh (violin), Sri.Nagarajan (mridhangam & tabla), Sri.Harahara Subramanian (ghatam), Sri. Gururaaj (keyboard) & Sri. Nagaraj (guitar). The concert was well appreciated by the guests. Beginning from Abogi varnam, followed by Gajavadhana Beduve (hamsadhwani), the troupe performed many popular numbers in carnatic like sarasa samadhana, sriman narayana, manasa yetulo, samaja varagamana, thamboori meetidhava, chinnanchiru kiliye etc. During the second half of the concert, they performed a devotional song ayarpadi maligaiyil, and melodius cine songs like janani janani, kanne kalai mane, kadhal ovium, chinnakkannan azhaikkiran, raghangal padhinaru etc. Towards the end Bh.Murali played krishna nee begane baro, payoji maine (bhajan), raghupathi raghava, and concluded the concert with baghyadha lakshmi baramma. M/s S.K.Raja Audio took care of audio system arrangements. The concert was very well received by the audience and they expressed their appreciation to Bh.Murali & his troupe.

Keyboard - A shortcut to Learn Music !!!

Generally learning vocal music or instruments like violin, flute begins with understanding of sound and reproducing it. For a person who hail from a family with no musical background, it takes a long time to understand sound and its variations. Concepts like sruthi & thala looks very difficult for him and if not properly guided, he may loose confidence in learning music. Traditional methods of teaching music support only those people who have some basic musical gene, and doesn't help others.

The Electronic Keyboard provides opportunity to all categories of people to learn music easily through its simple key arrangements & its technology. The various rhythm patterns available in the keyboard help us to understand thala / timing perfectly. There is no necessity to understand sound, and we can simply learn to place proper fingers on proper keys, in a particular timing. Moreover facilities like 'transpose', 'tuning' etc., available in the keyboard helps to solve the 'sruthi' problems and make learning easy.

Also the various 'tones', 'styles' and 'acmp' available in the keyboard, make learning lively and interesting. 'Metronome' feature helps to get grip in 'thala'. We may sometimes feel like playing in an orchestra, when we use the other features of 'Keyboard'. Features like 'pitch bend', 'modulation', 'portamento' available in the keyboard will help us to get introduced to 'gamakas' in carnatic to some extent. One can start with using these basic features to learn music and he will automatically understand sound in due course.

Online Classes for Indian Music on Keyboard

Bh.Murali is an expert in conducting Online Classes for Indian Music on Keyboard. In the year 2002, he started online classes on an experimental basis. He could conduct the classes successfully through 'skype' and many Indians living abroad have been benefited through the online classes. Many of the students are from USA and UK. Bh.Murali's online classes are effective, because of his notation writing skill and his experience in teaching (more than 10 years). He also gives recording of the song notes sung in his own voice, which helps students understand the musical phases easily and practice. Bh.Murali's teaching methodology is very simple to learn.

Moreover, as the online classes are conducted on a one-to-one basis, the classes are highly productive & result oriented. Bh.Murali says, 'learning keyboard' is a shortcut to learn music.

Stunning number of Performances in 2008 & 2009

Bh.Murali's Shreeraagam was officially inaugurated in the year 2007. With a few number of Wedding Concerts in 2007, the troop slowly gathered momentum. Hailing from the carnatic tradition, Shreeraagam's artists who are well experienced in performances, started giving pure instrumental fusion concerts to cater to the needs of all categories of people. In addition to the traditional carnatic, Shreeraagam included mild melodies of all ages in its concerts, which attracted more number of audience. In social functions, there may be different types of music lovers like carnatic lovers, cine song lovers, fusion lovers, devotional music lovers etc. Bh.Murali felt that music is not the asset of a particular set of people who have learnt music, but it should reach all categories and so he founded 'Shreeraagam'.

In the year 2008, the troop staged more than 50 performances and reached unimaginable heights through its melodius and versatile music. In 2009, the troop has already booked around 35 concerts within July 2009. Bh.Murali anticipates to perform around 100 concerts in 2009.
